Roller skating is a timeless activity that never goes out of style. Many people have wonderful skating memories from childhood, so it only makes sense that they would want to pass it on to their kids! Here at our Lewisville skating rink we love providing a fun, affordable family outing that can be enjoyed by kids, teens, and adults. So how old should your child be before you introduce him or her to roller skating?
Theoretically, a child can learn to roller skate as young as two or three years old, but it depends largely on your child. Most kids have the ability and interest to start skating around the age of four or five. However, kids eight years old and younger should still have adult supervision at all times.
Tips for teaching your child to skate
- Make sure your child has the coordination to stand on one foot for a few seconds at a time and to skip.
- Start out by holding your child’s hand or holding your child up by the armpits while you follow behind.
- Better yet, rent a skate mate. Our skate trainers lend your child a bit of stability while they learn the basics of skating and become more comfortable with the balancing and maneuvering.
- We also offer roller skating lessons at our North Texas skating rink, and we even have a small skating area for little skaters and anyone who needs some practice space to get the basics down.
